Lawyer hopes Alabama will reconsider Jonathan Taylor’s dismissal

An attorney representing defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor is hoping Alabama head coach Nick Saban and the university will reconsider their decision to dismiss Taylor from the program. Taylor was removed from the program after being charged in an alleged domestic violence incident, but those charges are now being reconsidered after the accuser was sent to jail for providing bad information to authorities.

Does this mean Taylor will be welcomed back to the football program?

“I certainly would hope so,” Kim Stephens, an attorney representing Taylor, said to Al.com. “My thought, from an outside perspective, in light of all the backlash, that coach Saban and university took as a result of the false accusations that were made and the removal from the team, I think it would be hard for him to take (Taylor) back on the team in spite of the recantation.”

Alabama has already put its foot down on Taylor’s situation, as well as other members of the program over the past week. Even though the charges being reconsidered, there is uncertainty whether or not a reinstatement might be possible.

“But I think fairness would dictate that they’d reconsider and at least talk to the accuser or former accuser in the case, then make a decision based on that,” said Stephens.

Taylor was given a second chance by Alabama after being dismissed from the Georgia program for a domestic violence incident. If Alabama rushed to judgment based on what turned out to be poor information, should Alabama go back and find a way to give Taylor a second chance again?
