With his path on Georgia’s depth chart blocked, Detric Bing-Dukes has decided to look elsewhere to continue his collegiate career.
After announcing it Saturday, Georgia released statements from the player and his now-former head Sunday officially confirming the decision to transfer. The decision was triggered by Bing-Dukes’ desire to seek a better opportunity at playing time at another football program.
“I love Georgia and appreciate the opportunity I had to be a Bulldog,” said Bing-Dukes in his statement. “However, I think my opportunities to play and contribute more will be better at another school.”
As is the case with any Bulldog who transfers out, head coach Mark Richt won’t block Bing-Dukes’ move to any other FBS school, including those in the SEC. If the linebacker does land at another FBS school, though, he’ll have to sit out the 2015 season.
“Detric has been an outstanding Bulldog and I understand his decision and desire to have a better opportunity,” said Richt. “We will do anything we can to assist him in the transition and wish him great success.”
Bing-Dukes was a four-star member of the Bulldogs’ 2014 recruiting class, rated as the No. 15 inside linebacker in the country and the No. 29 player at any position in the state of Georgia. He took a redshirt as a true freshman, and had been buried fourth on UGA’s depth chart through the first part of summer camp.
