UGA grad assistant charged with drunk driving, suspended

Football players, it turns out, aren’t the only ones forcing their football programs to deal with off-field issues.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that, early Saturday morning, Georgia graduate assistant Courtney Coard following a traffic stop in Clarke County (Ga.). Coard was officially charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper driving.

As a result of the incident, a school spokesperson confirmed that Coard has been indefinitely suspended by head coach Mark Richt.

Coard is in his first season as a defensive grad assistant with the Bulldogs. Prior to that, he was the defensive line coach at North Carolina A&T for four years.

He’s also been an assistant at Grambling and N.C Central in a coaching career that began in 2008. He was a four-year starter at defensive tackle at the latter institution.
