Starting S Darion Monroe one of two suspended for Tulane’s game vs. Georgia Tech

Going into Saturday’s game against the ground-and-pound that is Georgia Tech, Tulane is going to need all defensive hands on deck. Unfortunately for the AAC squad, that won’t be the case.

Head coach Curtis Johnson announced via a press release Friday evening that safety Darion Monroe and linebacker Eric Bowie have been suspended for the non-conference game against Tech. The only reason given was the standard unspecified violation of team policy.

While not specifically stated, it’s believed the suspensions for both players will last just the one day.

The loss of Monroe will serve as by far the biggest blow for the Green Wave defense.

The senior defensive back has played in and started every game the past three seasons for Tulane. In 2014, he was second on the team in solo tackles (51) and third in total tackles (73). He added four solo tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Bowie redshirted as a true freshman last season, and was listed as the backup weakside linebacker on the depth chart heading into the Tech game. He played in the season-opening loss to Duke and was credited with one tackle.
