Notre Dame weathers early Clemson storm, still trails 14-3

Clemson scored touchdowns on each of their first two drives of the game, but the Tigers have been unable to keep the foot on the gas in a soggy contest against Notre Dame. the Tigers lead the Irish 14-3 at the halftime break, with the defense eliding the way so far.

Clemson’s DeShaun Watson leds Clemson running the football with 5 yards (38 yards on one play) and his passing has been hit or miss. Watson completed half of his passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns. The Irish have the edge through the air with DeShone Kizer passing for 96 yards, but his completion percentage has room for improvement too (9-of-19). The freshman has also had a couple of delay of game penalties, which is to be expected on the road in Death Valley from time to time.

Clemson’s defense has played very well, taking away the running game form the Irish. C.J. Prosise has been limited to just four yards on 10 carries. It looks as though Clemson is going to have to ride the defense, unless the Tiger offense can get going again the way it started against the Notre Dame defense.
