MTSU RB Jeremiah Bryson charged with assault

Middle Tennessee State has become the latest FBS program with an off-field incident with which to deal.

According to the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal, Jeremiah Bryson was arrested on a simple assault charge over the weekend. The incident began when Bryson phoned his ex-girlfriend and mother of his daughter, Hannah Mabry, that he and his current girlfriend, Briana Cooper, were coming over to fight Mabry for unspecified reasons.

Mabry allegedly told Bryson not to come because his daughter was there, but the running back did anyway. From the Daily News Journal:

Mabry told police she was outside on the phone when she saw Bryson and Cooper pull up and park at the apartment complex located in the 400 block of Mill Circle, the warrant stated.

Cooper grabbed Mabry by the hair and started swinging at which point Zachary Delk, who was in Mabry’s apartment, came out to break the fight up, according to the warrant.

At that time, Bryson came up behind Delk and tried to hit him but missed, the warrant stated. Bryson then pushed Delk into a wall, causing an injury to his head.

A neighbor came out and asked Bryson and Cooper to leave at which point Bryson said he’d come back for Delk, the report stated.

Bryson turned himself in to authorities Sunday. It was discovered during Bryson’s booking on the assault charge that there was a warrant out for his arrest for failure to pay child support.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Bryson had not been suspended by the football program.

“It will give me a chance to talk to Jeremiah because I haven’t talked about it yet,” head coach Rick Stockstill said Tuesday night. “I won’t rush to judgment, and there are two sides to every story and until I hear his side of it, I am going to reserve my comments.”

Bryson is currently second on the Blue Raiders in rushing yards (186) and rushing touchdowns (three).
