Utah’s Devontae Booker, on status for UCLA game: ‘If it’s my call I’m going’

In Devontae Booker‘s mind, he’ll suit up and play in Utah’s game against UCLA this Saturday. Whether the football program’s medical minds agree with that assessment is to be determined.

Booker sustained an unspecified injury to his knee in the double-overtime loss to Arizona this past weekend. As the Utes don’t discuss specific injuries unless they’re season-ending, it’s unclear what the running back’s availability is for the Bruins game.

Well, it’s unclear to everyone but the player himself.

“I’m not banged up at all, really — just something that I’ve got to get treated and get better before the game,” Booker said. “If it’s my call I’m going. If it isn’t I’ve just got to respect it and go with it from there.”

Booker, named earlier today as a Doak Walker Award semifinalist, is currently 11th in the country and third in the Pac-12 with 1,261 yards rushing. Joe Williams, who is second on the team amongst running backs with 78 -- yes, 78 -- yards, would likely shoulder the running game load if Booker is unable to go.
