Jarrett Stidham’s status for Baylor’s game vs. Okla. St. uncertain

Baylor’s already lost its season-opening starter at quarterback for the remainder of 2015. Whether they have his replacement available for the (next) biggest game of the season remains decidedly up in the air.

Jarrett Stidham, who replaced Seth Russell following his neck injury in the Oct. 24 win over Iowa State, suffered a back injury in BU’s first loss of the season, to Oklahoma, this past Saturday. Monday, head coach Art Briles stated Stidham sustained no structural damage; two days later, Briles lamented how the true freshman had progressed medically.

“Honestly, not as far along as what I’d like for him to be,” Briles said following Wednesday’s practice. “We’ll see in the next day or two.”

If Stidham were to be unable to go in the battle between No. 10 Baylor and No. 6 (and unbeaten) Oklahoma State in Stillwater, sophomore Chris Johnson, who spent the first two-thirds of the 2015 season as a wide receiver, would likely get the start as he’s listed as No. 2 on the depth chart heading into the OSU game.

Johnson, who attempted four passes as a redshirt freshman last season, moved to receiver during summer camp before flipping back to quarterback after Russell’s injury.
