Georgia’s interim HC added as co-OC at South Carolina

Kurt Roper will join South Carolina as the Gamecocks’ offensive coordinator once the Cleveland Browns -- and their fans -- are again put out of their misery. In the interim, Roper’s next boss has added the coordinator some additional offensive help.

Confirming previous reports, Carolina announced Wednesday afternoon that Bryan McClendon has been hired by Will Muschamp as co-offensive coordinator. Additionally, McLendon will coach wide receivers.

McClendon served as the running backs coach at his alma mater Georgia from 2009-14. In 2015, he held titles of receivers coach, assistant head coach and passing-game coordinator.

After Mark Richt and UGA parted ways, McClendon was named interim head coach and will serve in that capacity for the Bulldogs’ TaxSlayer Bowl game. He will then join Muschamp in Columbia.

“Bryan is an up-and-comer in the coaching profession,” said Muschamp in a statement. “It says a lot about his abilities as a coach to be named the interim head coach for the Bulldogs in their bowl game.”

In addition to McClendon, USC announced the addition of Pat Washington as tight ends coach. Washington was the wide receivers coach at Missouri the past three seasons.
