The following is the text of an email I received from someone is presumably either a diehard LSU fan or a family member/close friend of one of one of the most physically-gifted running backs in the country: “For the love of God, please tell me that the rumors about how serious Fournette’s injury is aren’t accurate. Please please please.”
Fortunately, it appears that I can indeed tell this individual just that.
Leonard Fournette did not take part in Tuesday’s spring practice session, the first so-called Big Cat Drill of the offseason, sparking the fears illustrated above. A school official, however, indicated to CFT that the star junior-to-be was held out of the drill as a precautionary measure as he’s dealing with what’s described as a minor soft-tissue injury in an undisclosed location.
To accentuate just how minor it is, Fournette is expected to be a go for Thursday’s practice session, and is not expected to be limited.
Fournette’s 1,953 yards rushing as a true sophomore last season were third in the country, while his 162.8 yards per game led the FBS. With 22 rushing touchdowns, Fournette led the SEC and ranked fourth nationally.
In what’s expected to be his final season at the collegiate level, Fournette will enter 2016 as one of a handful of Heisman Trophy front-runners.
