Report: Florida QB Luke Del Rio expected to miss 2-3 weeks with knee sprain

It appears the injury to Florida quarterback Luke Del Rio was not as bad as originally anticipated.

According to Zach Abolverdi of SEC Country, Del Rio suffered a left knee sprain that will cause him to miss the next two-to-three weeks.

While that would still knock him out for Saturday’s all-important SEC East tilt with Tennessee, a two-week time frame would still put him back in the lineup in time for the Gators’ trip to LSU on Oct. 8. A three-week injury would have him back against Missouri a week later.

Florida is off Oct. 22, which means Del Rio should return well in time to face Georgia on Oct. 29.

Del Rio injured the knee after being sacked late in the Gators’ 32-0 blanking of North Texas on Saturday night. Florida head coach Jim McElwain had to be restrained by his own players after coming out nearly to midfield to scream at the UNT sideline.

Del Rio was replaced by Austin Appleby, who hit 2-of-4 passes for 30 yards in mop up duty.

For the season, the Oregon State transfer has connected on 62-of-101 passes for 762 yards with six scores against two picks.
