Mike Gundy: ‘if somebody feels it ain’t good enough, then hell, somebody else can come in here and try it’

You just knew it was coming at some point.

After Oklahoma State mega-booster T. Boone Pickens publicly criticized Mike Gundy‘s personality this past week, the billionaire released a statement less than two hours before the kickoff with Texas to “clear the air” on his relationship with the head coach. At his postgame press conference following the Cowboys’ win, Gundy deflected questions regarding Pickens’ comments.

In a one-on-one with John Hoover of TheFranchise.com after the presser, however, Gundy expounded in greater detail. Most pointedly, Gundy stated that “if somebody feels it ain’t good enough, then hell, somebody else can come in here and try it.”

Here’s just a snippet of Gundy’s expansive and eye-opening comments, but I would strongly recommend you go HERE to get the complete picture of the strange dynamic that is the Gundy/Pickens marriage:

It bothers me when people — anybody (takes public shots at him),” Gundy said. “If you really care about OSU, then I want you do things to help OSU. I don’t care who it is. That’s the way I see it. You know what I’m saying? If you’re doing something that’s hurting us in the big picture, well then I don’t like that. Because that means it makes it worse on these guys who bust their ass. You know? So the way I look at it is, if there’s things I really care about — like you, things you care about, you’re doing whatever you can to make it better. Right?

“It’s just like with your family. If somebody’s doing something to harm your family, you’re probably not gonna like it. Right? That’s really what it comes down to.

You have to wonder if the Gundy/Pickens relationship is repairable or even salvageable. Then again, I guess there has to be a relationship in place to begin with in order to repair or salvage it.
