Ex-LSU coach Les Miles hires powerful new agent as buyout payments from the school start next week

Les Miles is no longer the head coach at LSU after being let go earlier this season but it seems pretty clear that he will be a head coach somewhere else in 2017.

According to the Baton Rouge Advocate, Miles has hired agent Trace Armstrong to help represent him as he hits the job market for the first time in over a decade. Armstrong is well known within the industry and has an impressive roster of clients that include Ohio State’s Urban Meyer, Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly and this year’s hottest coaching candidate in Houston’s Tom Herman.

Miles was let go from the Tigers after 11 years at the school, posting a 114-34 win that includes a national title and several SEC championships. He has indicated in several interviews that he would like to coach again next season and it appears that adding another big name agent to his team is the latest step towards that.

Also interesting in the report from the Advocate is the coach’s buyout will result in about $9.6 million headed his way over the next six years, which would be mitigated if he finds another job. That’s more than $133,000 per paycheck, which apparently will start this upcoming Monday and continue on the last day of each month over the next several years.

It’s probably not the position Miles wants to be in right now but it’s not a bad way to wait out the rest of the season before getting together with Armstrong to decide on what new gig he wants to take this December.
