Coaches Top 25: Tennessee drops out, Oklahoma State, Penn State and Washington State enter

After another intriguing week of college football, the latest Amway Coaches Poll saw no change sin the top five this week. Alabama, while idle, remained the easy choice to take the top spot this week, with 63 of 64 possible first-place votes from the coaches this week. Michigan remained second in the poll, followed by Clemson. The Tigers scored the only first-place vote that did not go to the Crimson Tide. Washington and Louisville held firm to complete this week’s top five.

Three teams were dumped from the coaches poll this week; Tennessee, Navy and Houston. That made room for Oklahoma State (No. 22), Penn State (No. 23) and Washington State (No. 25). Aside from those falling out of the poll this week, Boise State took the most significant tumble in the coaches poll after losing at Wyoming on Saturday night. The Broncos fell 11 spots to No. 24 to barely hang on to a top 25 ranking. Western Michigan continues to row upstream, moving up three spots this week to No. 18.

The Big Ten placed four teams in the top 10 (Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Nebraska) and the SEC placed three (Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida).

One interesting note is Utah. After losing a hard-fought game at home to No. 4 Washington, the coaches did not feel a need to punish the Utes. Utah stayed at No. 16 in the coaches poll this week, exactly where they were last week. No. 10 Nebraska lost in overtime on the road against No. 8 Wisconsin and dropped four spots. Polls can be funny.
