Maryland suspends two players following arrest and BB gun assault charge

On Wednesday, Maryland running back Lorenzo Harrison and wide receiver DJ Turner (both freshmen) were arrested and charged with three counts of second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. The incident leading to the charges occurred earlier this month. Maryland has suspended both players.

“We are aware of the situation and take these matters very seriously,” Maryland said in a statement. “The two student-athletes involved have been suspended indefinitely for violating the student-athlete code of conduct. This matter has also been referred to the Office of Student Conduct for further review.”

Harrison is Maryland’s second-leading rusher with 633 yards and five touchdowns in nine games. Turner has appeared in eight games and caught two passes for 19 yards.
