Oakland A’s tweet unique idea for protecting their financial investment in Kyler Murray

One Major League Baseball organization is a little more nervous than most organizations in the sport are on college football Saturdays.

As you may have heard, Oklahoma starting quarterback Kyler Murray was selected ninth overall by the Oakland Athletics in the June MLB draft. Shortly thereafter, Murray signed a contract with the A’s that not only included a $5 million bonus but also contains a provision that allows him to play college football in 2018 before shifting his focus to baseball in 2019. Murray’s agent confirmed last month that this will be his client’s last season in college football.

Obviously, the A’s have invested a sizable amount of money in a draft pick who, before joining them, will be playing 13 (or more) games in a physical and ofttimes violent sport. During Oklahoma’s game Saturday afternoon, the A’s tweeted out a suggestion as to how to protect their investment.

At least in this game, the A’s didn’t have much to worry about as Murray came out of it unscathed thanks to both his mobility and this offensive line.

In the 49-21 win over UCLA, Murray accounted for five touchdowns -- three passing, two rushing. He passed for 306 yards and ran for another 69.
