Maryland board also wanted to retain trainers blamed for Jordan McNair’s death

We already know how Maryland’s board of regents feel about school president Wallace Loh, AD Damon Evans and especially their ex-head coach DJ Durkin. In fact, the board felt so strongly about Durkin they were willing to fire Loh to ensure Durkin’s return.

Turns out they were pretty darn high on the football program’s training staff as well.

According to the Washington Post, the University System of Maryland recommended the school reinstate assistant AD for athletic training Steve Nordwall and head athletics trainer Wes Robinson.

Both men have been on paid administrative leave since Aug. 10.

In the meantime, the school published a report that blamed the training staff and its (lack of) response to Jordan McNair after the player collapsed during a team conditioning session in late May. McNair died on June 13 due to the preventable heatstroke he suffered that day. The school accepted moral and legal responsibility for his death before commissioning an internal investigation, which found the school at fault.

Given what we know about the major players in this scandal, one wonders what the board would have thought about former strength coach Rick Court‘s employment status if he hadn’t resigned back in August.

In a related story, University System of Maryland board of regents chairman James Brady has resigned.
