Alabama’s DeVonta Smith among four receivers added to Biletnikoff Award watch list

For the second time since the 2019 season kicked off, a major college football award is adding to its watch list.

This week, the Biletnikoff Award announced that it has added four wide receivers to watch, with all four hailing from Power Five football programs. The most noteworthy addition is Alabama’s DeVonta Smith, who is currently tied for fourth in the country in touchdown receptions (eight) and is ninth nationally in receiving yards (537).

In addition to Smith, Minnesota’s Rashod Bateman, Pitt’s Taysir Mack and Wake Forest’s Scotty Washington are now included as well. Mack’s 41 receptions are good for a tie for sixth at the FBS level.

Below are the dash lines for all four receivers:

Bateman -- 23-537-4
Mack -- 41-511-2
Smith -- 31-537-8
Washington -- 27-470-6

The Biletnikoff Award is handed out annually to the nation’s most outstanding FBS receiver. The Tallahassee Quarterback Club, which oversees the honor, stresses that "[a]ny player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award.”

Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy was the 2018 winner of the award.
