Iowa officially names Greg Davis as new coordinator

Five days after it was reported Greg Davis had accepted the offensive coordinator job at Iowa, the Hawkeyes have confirmed the news.

Via a release, the school announced that the long-time Texas assistant has been named as the Hawkeyes’ coordinator. The confirmation follows a couple of weeks worth of speculation that had Davis headed to the Big Ten school.

“We are thrilled to have Greg Davis join our staff,” said head coach Kirk Ferentz in a statement. “Greg has enjoyed great success during his career and I believe that can be attributed directly to the combination of his football expertise and teaching skills.

“Greg’s units have demonstrated impressive production and they have done so using a variety of systems and styles - he has done an outstanding job of playing towards the strengths and abilities of the players with which he has worked.

“While Greg’s body of work on the field has been stellar, I have been even more impressed with the many positive things I have learned about Greg as a person and staff member. I am very confident he will be a tremendous asset to our program, campus and community.”

Prior to “parting ways” with the Longhorns following the 2010 season, Davis had been Mack Brown’s coordinator at UT for 13 seasons, and for two years prior to that at North Carolina. Davis, who was out of coaching in 2011, will replace Ken O’Keefe, who left the Hawkeyes after 13 seasons earlier this year to coach wide receivers with the Miami Dolphins.
