Golden-to-Cincy talk continues to simmer

Now that the Notre Dame and Kansas jobs have been filled, the focus has now shifted to Cincinnati and their search for a new head coach.

And, at least early on, a lot of the focus has centered on one candidate -- Temple’s Al Golden.

On Saturday, Golden said he had not spoken to Cincinnati and stressed that his focus was on the Owls’ bowl game against UCLA. Sunday, Golden reiterated the same message.

I just haven’t had any contact with anybody [from Cincy],” Golden said according to the Philadelphia Daily News. “Right now I’m just going about my business. I don’t know what the future brings, but I’m just trying to get ready to play UCLA.”

Golden was then asked if he would talk to the Bearcats if they reached out to him.

“I don’t know,” Golden said. “I don’t know.”

[Translation: “Yes,” Golden said. “Yes.”]

Several sources have told the Daily News that UC officials have asked permission to speak to Golden. That’s the latest in a long line of reports that have tied to Golden to the opening.
