Tech AD Meyers flustered over ‘Bama game reports

Well, this has certainly taken a turn toward the absurd.

On Tuesday, Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers was quoted by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal as saying the following regarding a game with Alabama to open the 2012 season: “We’ve agreed to do it. I think Alabama’s agreed to do it. But we haven’t gotten down to signing a contract or anything like that.”

Shortly after that story appeared, sources told the Tuscaloosa News that “the deal is not as close to being made as... Myers indicated.”

Now, Myers is just beside himself, and simply can’t understand how this whole TT-'Bama thing has blown up into what it’s become in Lubbock and across the country.

(Writer’s note: Huh?)

“I don’t know how the darn thing got leaked out that we had a game with Alabama,’' Myers said according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “It’s just gotten blown all out of proportion.”

To refresh everyone’s memories, including Myers’, here’s what the AD had to say to the Avalanche-Journal: “We’ve agreed to do it. I think Alabama’s agreed to do it.”

Mr. Firestarter, I present to you Exhibit A as to “how the darn thing got leaked out... [and] blown all out of proportion.”

As an aside, is there any chance AD Meyers goes all Coach Meyer on the Avalanche-Journal reporter that quoted him correctly?
