Denard Robinson confirms he’ll be back at Michigan

Last week, new head coach Brady Hoke stated publicly that there was no “question... at all” that Denard Robinson would be returning to Michigan for his junior season.

Since then, however, Robinson had yet to confirm his future plans. The key word there, though, is “had”.

In an interview that will appear on the school’s official website this morning, the star quarterback confirmed that, after conferring with his parents, brother and high school coach, he will return to the Wolverines in 2011. He did, though, confirm that he contemplated a transfer after Rich Rodriguez was fired by the school.

“Rich Rod was one of the few coaches that gave me a chance to play as a quarterback on the next level,” Robinson said in comments obtained by the Associated Press ahead of the posting of the interview.

“This is my family -- my home now.”

On at least two occasions following Rodriguez’s dismissal, Robinson refused to confirm what his football future would hold. In fact, Robinson’s former high school coach sounded decidedly pessimistic regarding his future at the school due to the move from Rodriguez’s spread offense to whatever it is Hoke will run in Ann Arbor.

Now, Art Taylor (no relation) is firmly behind his former player’s decision.

“I’m supportive of Denard and happy for him,” Taylor wrote to the AP in a text message. “As long as he is happy, that is the most important thing.”

Now the most important thing becomes how Hoke can make Robinson’s talents fit into his offensive scheme. Somehow, we think the new coach will find a way to make it work. And keep Robinson happy.
