Addazio tabs old Gator friend as Temple coordinator

Four weeks after being left on the outside looking in at Will Muschamp‘s revamped Florida staff, Chuck Heater has found a new coaching home.

And, as it turns out, it’s with a very familiar face.

In a press release issued by the school, Temple announced the hiring of Heater as the Owls’ defensive coordinator. Both Heater and new Temple head coach Steve Addazio had spent the past six seasons with the Gators.

“We’re very fortunate to have Chuck Heater join our football family,” Addazio said in a statement. “Chuck is one of the most respected coaches in college football. He is a tremendous person and dedicated family man.

“I am excited to be a part of Temple football and to continue my relationship with Steve Addazio,” Heater said. “I’m excited about the future of Temple football and what we can accomplish here.”

In addition to his time in Gainesville, Heater has also been on staffs at Utah, Colorado, Washington, Notre Dame and Ohio State among others. He’s been a part of three national title teams -- two with the Gators, one with the Irish in 1988.
