Update: Starting Mizzou lineman to miss 2011 season

Earlier today, it was reported that starting Missouri left tackle Elvis Fisher went down with what was described as “a very serious knee injury.”

Unfortunately for all involved, the initial prognosis was correct.

Dave Matter of the Columbia Tribune is reporting that Fisher has been diagnosed with a ruptured patellar tendon. As a result of the injury suffered during practice Monday morning, Fisher, who was held out of spring practice after undergoing shoulder surgery, will miss the entire 2011 season.

Obviously, losing Fisher for any stretch of time let alone the entire season is a huge blow to the Tigers. Fisher has started 40 straight games for Mizzou, and has been an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection each of the past two seasons.

On the depth chart that was last updated July 22, redshirt freshman Anthony Gatti was listed as Fisher’s backup.
