Second Kiel, first Wright-Baker decide Indiana’s not for them

For the second time in less than three months, a football player with the surname of “Kiel” has decided Indiana is not the place for him to either start or continue his collegiate career. And, as it turns out, the first Wright-Baker has decided the same.

In October, Gunner Kiel, the top-rated quarterback in the Class of 2012, decommitted from the Hoosiers and ultimately gave his verbal to LSU. Now, Gunner’s older brother has taken a turn “decommitting” from the Hoosiers.

247Sports.com and Peegs.com both reported that Dusty Kiel has decided to leave the Indiana football program. Kiel’s placement on the quarterback depth chart is believed to be the reason behind the transfer.

IU not only confirmed that Kiel was leaving, but the school also confirmed that fellow QB Edward Wright-Baker is transferring from the program as well. Losing his starting job likely played a role in Wright-Baker’s decision.

Kiel and Wright-Baker, along with true freshmanTre Roberson, were involved in a battle for the starting job that began in the spring and extended into summer camp. Wright-Baker won the job coming out of camp, although Roberson ultimately finished the season under center.

Wright-Baker started five games this season and led the Hoosiers in passing yards (1,029) and passing touchdowns (four). Kiel started two games in 2011 as a redshirt sophomore, and played in a total of four games, throwing three touchdowns and one interception in 82 attempts.

There’s no word yet on where either Baker-Wright or Kiel may be headed.
