Paterno laid to rest after procession through State College

Earlier today, remaining mourners had one final chance to say goodbye to long-time Penn State coach Joe Paterno.

This afternoon, a private funeral allowed Paterno’s family and close friends to do the same. Then, Paterno’s funeral procession was taken through State College. Fans, students, alumni and more -- sometimes multiple people deep -- lined the streets as the convoy passed through.

“Thank you to all the people who turned out for my father’s procession,” tweeted Jay Paterno. “Very moving.”

In addition to Paterno’s family, those in attendance for the funeral were former running back Franco Harris, athletic director Tim Curley, assistant Mike McQeary, defensive coordinator Tom Bradley and ESPN analyst Matt Millen.

“Today’s Mass was a celebration. We laid to rest a great man,” Bradley said. “He meant so much to so many people.”

A public memorial for Paterno will be held tomorrow at the Bryce Jordan Center, the final event of a three-day remembrance of the coach.
