WVU AD says he’s not interested in being Big 12 commissioner

As we noted earlier in the week, the Big 12’s Board of Directors are set to meet today to begin the search of replacing acting conference commissioner Chuck Neinas.

So far, only a few names have been connected to the job -- Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowsky and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick among them -- but there has been another one floating around the rumor mill: West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck (pictured, third on right).

Before taking the AD position at WVU, Luck was the president of the Houston Dynamo of MLS, and the VP of Business Development and President and CEO of NFL Europe, so he’s held high-ranking positions before.

But Luck has stated multiple times he’s not interested in the position, most recently by the Charleston Gazette’s Mitch Vingle.

“No,” Luck said when asked if he was interested in the job. “I‘m very happy with what I’m doing. We have lots to do here yet. I’m happy being on [school president] Jim Clements’ team.

“I’d rather be on the search committee.”

Whether the search committee brings up Lucks name remains to be seen.
