Ragone’s transfer from Irish to Jayhawks made official

Exactly a month after Mike Ragone acknowledged publicly that he would be transferring from Notre Dame to Kansas for his sixth season of college football, the Jayhawks have made the move official.

In a release, KU announced that the tight end has officially signed his grant in aid forms, making his transfer from the Irish to the Jayhawks complete. Ragone becomes the third former Irish player to rejoin Charlie Weis in Kansas.

Ragone missed the entire 2008 season with a knee injury suffered during summer camp, and was granted a fifth season of eligibility. He tore another ACL during the third game of the 2011 season and missed the remainder of the year, leading to the NCAA’s no-brainer decision to grant him a sixth season.

During his injury-plagued career with the Irish, Ragone caught 11 passes for 109 yards. Ragone was a four-star member of Weis’ 2007 recruiting class and the No. 3 TE in the country.

A member of Weis’ 2008 recruiting class, quarterback Dayne Crist, announced in December of last year that he would be transferring to the Jayhawks from the Irish. Last week it was announced that linebacker Anthony McDonald will leave the Irish after graduating this spring and transfer to KU. All three will be eligible to play immediately as each already has or will have graduated from Notre Dame.

As an aside, 15 members of Weis’ first KU 26-person 2012 recruiting class are transfers -- six from the Division 1 level, nine from the JUCO ranks.
