Gene Chizik confirms QB Zeke Pike will transfer

A promising talent will not end up competing for Auburn’s quarterback job this fall after all.

After being sent home earlier this summer by coach Gene Chizik for getting charged with public intoxication, freshman quarterback Zeke Pike will not be returning to The Plains. Chizik confirmed Wednesday after the Tigers’ first fall practice that Pike is not part of the team and will transfer, although it’s not known to where.

It was reported earlier by al.com that Pike was no longer with the team.

Chizik added that defensive back Jonathan Rose is also not part of the team and will transfer, following up on reports from late last month.

They’re not with our football team anymore. Their intent is to transfer to another school. We wish them the best,” Chizik said.

Both players came to Auburn as decorated recruits, but Pike was in contention for the starting quarterback position as of this spring. Whether or not he would have been this fall was yet to be seen, and obviously, now it never will be.
