Girlfriend charged after attempted breakout of alleged Stoops burglar

Well of course that happened.

Last month, the home of Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops was burglarized, with two arrests -- one adult, one juvenile -- following in the days after the break-in. The latter has been detained at a juvenile detention center since, but not due to any lack of concern or bungled effort on the part of his better half.

According to Jake Trotter of ESPN.com, 2o-year-old Paige Maurey, the girlfriend of the juvenile, attempted to break her man out of the juvenile detention center earlier this month. Per the report, Bonnie and four juvenile Clods took a hedge trimmer -- apparently lawn & garden equipment has replaced the old file-in-a-cake as the go-to breakout tool-- and headed to the facility after a July 2 phone conversation in which the juvenile asked for help in escaping.

Armed with said hedge trimmer, hilarity ensued:

Maurey, three other male juveniles and one female then got a hedge trimmer and drove together to the detention center. Maurey gave the male juveniles bandanas to conceal their identities, then left to go get gas with the female juvenile, the affidavit said.

While Maurey was away, a detention center employee saw someone peeking around the corner of a building inside the fence. Once seen, that subject hopped the fence and ran off, leaving the hedge cutters behind, which the employee found.

All five alleged breakout queens and kings were subsequently caught and arrested. The charge, though, is no laughing matter as Maurey was slapped with a felony count of assisting a prisoner to escape.
