‘Canes LB Marques Gayot sustained neck injury, expected to make full recovery

Fortunately, there’s some seemingly good news regarding a scary situation earlier today.

Wednesday morning, Miami acknowledged that an unnamed football player had been taken to a local hospital after being injured during practice. A subsequent report stated that the player was airlifted after a head-to-head collision with a teammate.

In an updated press release, The U confirmed that the player involved is linebacker Marques Gayot. The school also confirmed that Gayot sustained a neck injury.

The good news, though, is that it doesn’t appear to be serious. From the release.

He has undergone a battery of tests and will be kept overnight for precaution. He will be placed in a neck collar and released tomorrow morning. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The school has not addressed how much if any time Gayot will be sidelined.

Last season as a true freshman, Gayot appeared in six games. He had played in the first three games this season, and had 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in the season opener against Bethune-Cookman.
