Mizzou suspends Maty Mauk after disturbing video surfaces

Missouri’s resident problem child is at it again, only this time it could signal the end of his career with the Tigers -- and some serious issues that transcend football.

Late Monday night, a video surfaced on and quickly spread across the Internet that purportedly shows Maty Mauk involved in some illicit activity. Specifically, the person in the video is shown doing a line of what appears to be cocaine.

It’s not been completely confirmed that it’s Mauk in the video, but, a short time after it went viral, Mizzou announced that the quarterback has, again, been indefinitely suspended.

“We are currently gathering information regarding the video in question,” the statement began. “This is an issue we take very seriously and one that will not be tolerated within our program. We will take the appropriate actions once we have all the facts. In the interim, Maty Mauk has been indefinitely suspended for the Mizzou football program.”

This marks Mauk’s third suspension in four months.

Mauk was suspended in late September for violating unspecified team rules. After missing four games, he was reinstated. Less than a week after his reinstatement, he was suspended for the remainder of the 2015 season. That suspension allegedly stemmed from an off-campus incident involving the player and an unidentified male outside of a downtown Columbia drinking establishment.

In late December, new Mizzou head coach Barry Odom reinstated Mauk.

Mauk was the starting quarterback on the Tigers’ 2014 SEC East title squad after starting a handful of games for the 2013 East title team. He attempted just 110 passes in a truncated 2015 season that again saw him begin as the starting quarterback.
