When it comes to off-field issues, Speedy Noil simply can’t get out of his own way.
The latest speed bump for the talented Texas A&M wide receiver came on April Fool’s Day, with online Brazos County Sheriffs records showing that Noil was arrested April 1 and charged for having no driver’s license. No details of what led to the early morning traffic stop that preceded the charge were divulged.
Noil’s arrest comes nearly four months after reports surfaced that the receiver would be suspended for not only the Aggies’ bowl game but for the 2016 opener against UCLA as well. The only reason given for that suspension was the standard violation of unspecified team rules.
That was Noil’s second suspension of the season as he didn’t play against Western Carolina because of violations of unspecified team rules. Additionally, Noil took some time off from football this past spring “to do some things.”
Shortly after signing with A&M in February of 2014, Noil was the passenger in a car that was pulled over and in which two of his teammates were charged with possession of marijuana.
As a true freshman in 2014, Noil, a five-star signee, was third on the team with 583 receiving yards and five touchdowns, while his 46 receptions were fourth. He also averaged 12 yards on 15 punt returns and 22.7 on 28 kick returns.
Thanks in large part to the emergence of Freshman All-American Christian Kirk along with his own issues, Noil’s numbers were more than cut in half this past season. In nine games, Noil caught 21 passes for 226 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He returned just two punts for 17 yards, while his 11 kick returns have netted him 241 yards.
