Report: LaMichael James arrested on domestic complaint

The off-field issues slowly enveloping Chip Kelly‘s Oregon football program have continued today as yet another Duck has found himself on the wrong side of Johnny Law.

And, this time, it’s not “just” a kicker who’s involved.

According to a report from KEZI-TV in Eugene, star running back LaMichael James has been arrested for domestic violence by Springfield (Or.) police.

James was arrested at three o’clock this morning, although the details that led to the arrest are not yet available. Per the station, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office website lists James’ charges as strangulation, assault-4 and menacing.

James was named the Pac-10’s Freshman of the Year after rushing for 1,546 yards and 14 touchdowns. James replaced LeGarrette Blount in the starting lineup following Blount’s suspension for punching a Boise State player and generally going bats--- crazy in the season opener.

Earlier today, it was reported that kicker Rob Beard had been charged with misdemeanor assault. Beard had been involved in a brawl last month that led to Matt Simms retaliating for his teammate’s beating. Simms was arrested for simple assault following the retaliation, then was dismissed from the program.

Of course, star quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, along with wide receiver Garrett Embry, was implicated in a frat house robbery last month. No charges have been filed in that case, and Embry is no longer with the program.

Other than that, there’s nothing really going on in the Land of the Ducks.
