As it turns out, Chris Rucker‘s suspension for at least one game following a DUI arrest could very well be the least of the Michigan State player’s worries.
The starting cornerback was one of several members of the football football program charged in connection with a altercation/brawl/assault at a campus residence hall last fall. Rucker ultimately pleaded guilty to assault & battery and sentenced to probation.
That sentence and subsequent drunk-driving charge could become very problematic for Rucker as, the Detroit News is reporting, the senior violated two of the terms of his probation in his latest arrest, including the purchase, possession or consumption of alcohol. Even worse for Rucker is the fact that his probation officer is recommending he serve 21 days in jail for the violations.
According to the paper, Rucker has until Oct. 20 to appear in court for an arraignment, and a determination of his jail sentence could be made at that time.
Rucker’s position coach Harlon Barnett said the school has every intention of welcoming the corner back, although head coach Mark Dantonio refused to say how long the suspension will last.
Of course, it appears right now that Rucker’s availability for the near future rests not in the hands of the Spartans but rather the legal system.
