As he explores transfer options, Tide’s Sentimore one of two suspended indefinitely

Late last week, it was reported that Alabama defensive lineman Darrington Sentimore was exploring transfer options.

Tuesday, we learned the likely reasoning behind the exploration.

Alabama announced today that Sentimore and redshirt freshman wide receiver Keiwone Malone “have been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules and policy” according to a statement attributed to head coach Nick Saban.

Obviously, no reason was given for the suspensions. It’s also uncertain whether Sentimore will continue to pursue other football options, although it would stand to reason that he will.

As a redshirt freshman in 2010, Sentimore played in 11 games. Based on his performance this spring and the praise he garnered from Saban, Sentimore was expected to see an increased role in the Tide’s line rotation.

Additionally, the school confirmed that safety Robby Green will not be returning for to the football program. It had been reported late last week as well that Green was not expected to return.

The defensive back missed all of last year due to academic issues, and a violation of unspecified team rules caused him to miss the 2011 spring sessions. He also missed a majority of spring practice in 2010, seemingly due to the same academic issues that sidelined him for the entire year.

Before running into those off-field hurdles, Green was expected to challenge for a starting job at safety both this year and last after playing in 26 games (six starts) his true freshman and sophomore seasons.

Green was a four-star member of the Tide’s 2008 recruiting class. He was the No. 17 cornerback in the country according to Rivals.com.
