Video of Jameis Winston’s ‘crab caper’ released

Jameis Winston Crab Legs

And, suffice to say, it won’t be up for any Academy Awards.  Or really much of anything for that matter.

If you haven’t heard, Jameis Winston was involved in an incident late last month in which he was issued a misdemeanor citation for “forgetting to pay for” nearly $33 worth of seafood from a grocery store.  The reigning Heisman Trophy winner, after being suspended from the Florida State baseball team, apologized for the misstep.

A couple of weeks later, the incident is back in the headlines as the Tallahassee Democrat has obtained security camera footage of Winston walking out of the Publix — right behind a security officer — with the hot seafood clearly visible.

Previous reports had Winston evading security on his way out the door; based on the video below, who knows:

Scintillating stuff, isn’t it?

There will reportedly be a “sequel” released with additional footage, although how much visual excitement and stimulation the general public can handle in one day is up for debate.

It is darn hard to pay for something when you are running away with it.

  2. mcjon22 says: May 15, 2014 1:41 PM

Jesus, enough already about this story

  3. Deb says: May 15, 2014 2:20 PM

Yeah, woebegong … it’s a wonder he didn’t trample a bunch of kids and old ladies, he was running sooo fast and working sooo hard to dodge security.

I’ve never seen more than one person at the Publix fish counter in my life and never seen them take so long to fill an order. Meanwhile, the crowd just kept getting bigger and bigger. That was hilarious.

What a bunch of hysteria over nothing.

Is there a sequel or a director’s cut with an additional x-amount of minutes? This is crucial to the sakes pitch…

  5. jimmy53 says: May 15, 2014 2:32 PM

jesus—are we still talking about this?

  6. seminolez says: May 15, 2014 3:02 PM

after all the memes about this i’m really kinda disappointed about how boring this video turned out to be.

    Yawn…. that was 2:47 I’m not getting back….

  8. brianincbus says: May 15, 2014 3:20 PM

Okay, so he “forgot” to pay for it… but it was all he would have bought? That makes no sense.

  9. sullivan1009 says: May 15, 2014 3:22 PM

Really wanted to see a Heisman pose with the stolen goods under his arm and a stiff arm to security.

Deb, it’s funny you use the word `hysteria`. Since it sounds like you need treated for this artificial disease.

Looks like the dude behind the counter knew what he was coming for already. He was giving away food.

    Still yet, Jameis knew better.

  12. xmen1906 says: May 15, 2014 4:06 PM

Why the camera following the black dude?

I say they need to keep an eye on the lady in the pink.
Hey Lady, move you effing cart from in front of the cooler. Other people need to get stuff too

    (I would ram her cart)

  13. mydixienormus says: May 15, 2014 4:11 PM

Lots of walking around the store buying nothing after he had his loot…

Looks like he was stalling until the time was right to make a break for it.

    @xmen1906 …

Hope you don’t buy the groceries in your family. It takes patience :)

I want to see video of the BK incident, BB gun damage, meeting the so called victim at the bar,…..

Agree. It looks like he was thinking about it for a while as he walked throughout the entire store. I like the way he cuts the girl with the cart off when he turns and leaves the “free” seafood counter….what a gentleman.

Did you guys change the video? The first video posted here showed him standing at the seafood counter for a long time while a crowd gathered, going back to his car, and coming back in again. This one just shows him walking up to the counter, immediately picking up the crab, and taking a long route to the door.

  18. gatorjet says: May 15, 2014 5:09 PM

All he had was the seafood – nothing else. Yet he says he forgot to pay?? Oh, I forgot I had food in my hands as I was walking out the door without paying. He cannot even get his bs story right for his lie – cameras in grocery stores are there to check shoplifters – as to only following him – can see it is pieced together from multiple cameras

Stealing is BAD, bad, bad! I know this. But I would have fallen out of my chair had he struck the Heisman pose walking out the sliding doors! Just sayin……

That helps explain your first post about Publix taking a long time the time to fill an order and a crowd gathering at the seafood counter. The current(?) video shows him at the seafood counter for about 2 seconds before being handed his “free” seafood (I just couldn’t resist).

  21. Deb says: May 15, 2014 5:30 PM

    @1990tiger …

Watched it again because it seemed like people were commenting on a different video :) The original was 17 minutes long (I kept skipping ahead). I almost posted that maybe he thought they they should have comped it for taking so long ;)

  22. John Taylor says: May 15, 2014 5:32 PM

Deb: we haven’t changed anything when it comes to the video. That must be coming from the Democrat’s end.

  23. Deb says: May 15, 2014 5:39 PM

Well, that explains it, JT. They must have posted the uncut video as soon as they got it, then changed the link to just feature the grab and go :)

  24. dhardy8207 says: May 15, 2014 7:09 PM

Considering he had nothing else in his hands at the time he was casually walking through the store, I d be interested in what could possibly have been so distracting that he “forgot to pay” for the one item? A drunken coed perhaps in the beer/wine section perhaps….

  25. mrba4775 says: May 15, 2014 10:42 PM

This is OLD NEWS, winston has served his 20 hours of community service. It appears that the video tape has be tampered with. This is not the long version.

  26. tigersdawgs says: May 16, 2014 4:09 PM

BUT see what had happened was…………..

  27. sportfan2 says: May 17, 2014 10:25 AM

Okay, he is a thief and then lied that he forgot to pay. Nothing to worry about here :)

  28. florida727 says: May 18, 2014 9:34 AM

#Deb, just curious, when does theft stop being “nothing”? If it were $50 worth? $100? If he added a carton of milk to the mix? It’s a CRIMINAL OFFENSE to STEAL something… take something that doesn’t belong to you WITHOUT PAYING FOR IT. Winning a Heisman Trophy or a national championship doesn’t exempt someone from obeying THE LAW.

  29. jason9696 says: May 18, 2014 2:52 PM

He got away with rape. I guess he thought he was going to get away with this as well.
