Another day, another name tossed into the Tide coordinator mix

In the past week or so, Boise State’s Brent Pease, former New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and soon-to-be-former Jacksonville Jaguars Dirk Koetter have all reportedly interviewed for the Alabama offensive coordinator position.

Pease has already opted to take the same job at Florida, while Schottenheimer and Koetter have also been mentioned in connection with jobs that would allow them to stay at the NFL level. So, as expected, more names are emerging as potential candidates for the offensive opening.

One of those is Washington coordinator Doug Nussmeier, who ESPN’s Mark Schlabach mentions as a possibility via Twitter. How strong the interest the Tide has in Nussmeier is not clear at the moment, or even if he will interview for the position as Schottenheimer and Koetter have reportedly done.

Nussmeier has spent the past three seasons as the Huskies coordinator. The year prior to the arrival of Nussmeier as part of Steve Sarkisian‘s coaching staff, the Huskies finished the 2008 season 117th in scoring offense (13.3 ppg) and 116th in total offense (263.2 ypg); in 2011, UW finished 25th (33.4 ppg) and 38th (409.6 ypg) in those categories, respectively.

Prior to his time at UW, Nussmeier spent a year as Fresno State’s coordinator and three years as Michigan State’s quarterbacks coach, with two years as an assistant with the St. Louis Rams in between.
