And so it begins.
Shortly after the debilitating sanctions on Penn State’s football program were announced Monday morning, Ohio high school cornerback Ross Douglas confirmed that he had decommitted from the Nittany Lions’ Class of 2013, a direction in which he had been leaning in the weeks leading up to the announcement.
Now, the Detroit News is reporting that Big Ten rival Michigan has offered Douglas a scholarship and, according to FightOnState.com, the player has given a verbal commitment to the Wolverines.
In a post to his Twitter account a short time ago, Douglas confirmed the commitment to UM:
Douglas is rated as a four-star player by Rivals.com and is the No. 22 corner in the country according to the same recruiting service.
There is, though, some good news on the recruiting front for head coach Bill O’ Brien and his coaching staff.
In a conversation with Scout.com last night, five-star tight end Adam Breneman reaffirmed his verbal commitment as a member of PSU’s ’13 recruiting class. He did, however, seem to leave the door slightly ajar for a future change of heart.
“I committed to play for Coach O’Brien and in front of 100,000 fans, and all that stuff is still there,” Breneman told the website. “This is still the beginning of the process, and I’m still evaluating things with my family and talking things over with my coaches and people I trust right now. I also spoke to Coach O’Brien, and I remain committed to Coach O”Brien.”
