A scary incident earlier this week has, thankfully, morphed into a likely return to the practice field this coming week for a UCLA Bruin.
Friday night, head coach Jim Mora confirmed that wide receiver Devin Lucien had passed a concussion test earlier in the day. The positive news on the medical front means that the receiver could return to practice as early as Monday.
However, Lucien will likely be in a no-contact jersey whether he returns Monday or later on in the week.
At practice Tuesday evening, Lucien suffered what was initially thought to be a serious head injury. After being transported to a local hospital via ambulance -- and strapped to a stretcher -- Lucien was released later on that night. The subsequent diagnosis was that Lucien had suffered from heat exhaustion and a slight head injury, the latter which triggered the concussion testing.
In 2013, Lucien caught 19 passes for 339 yards. Entering summer camp, he was expected to lock down one of the starting jobs at his position.
In fact, the Los Angeles Daily News wrote that "[t]he redshirt junior had looked like arguably the team’s best receiver through camp before his injury, matching up with top cornerback Fabian Moreau on most plays.”
