Pac-12, SEC pace semifinalists for Maxwell coaching award

You know how I know we’re (sadly) coming to the end of another college football season? Major awards have moved on from watch lists to semifinalists.

The latest, but certainly not the last as you will see shortly, to do so is the Maxwell Football Club, which announced Wednesday its group of 20 semifinalist for Coach of the Year. One of this year’s semifinalists, Duke’s David Cutcliffe, was a semifinalist and finalist before winning the 2013 Maxwell Coach of the Year award.

Four other 2013 semifinalists are 2014 semifinalists: Wisconsin’s Gary Andersen, Baylor’s Art Briles, Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher and Alabama’s Nick Saban.

The Pac-12 and SEC had four semifinalists each, while the ACC and Big 12 had three each. The Big Ten and Mountain West, with two apiece, were the only conferences with more than one.
