For sale: crab-themed ‘Catholics vs Criminoles’ t-shirts

Yep, some Notre Dame fans -- or someone with a very in-tune sense of humor -- have done went and gone there.

Back in the mid-eighties, prior to Notre Dame’s game with Miami, it was attire with some form of “Catholics vs Convicts” printed on it. This time around, with Florida State and the Irish set to clash in mid-October this season, another round of “inspired” t-shirts is making the round.

As pointed out by CSNChicago.com earlier this week, the website Sportscrack.com currently has the following for sale, for the low, low price of just $17 (plus shipping & handling of course):

Catholics vs Criminoles

Of course, the crab portion of the themed t-shirt references FSU quarterback Jameis Winston‘s seafood caper earlier this offseason that netted the reigning Heisman Trophy winner a citation and brief suspension -- from the baseball team. The taunting likely won’t bother Winston much as he’s been there, seen that.

It’s rather ironic that FSU is referred to as the “Criminoles,” however, as it’s Notre Dame that most recently had one of its players arrested on rather serious charges. Earlier this month, Irish wide receiver Will Mahone was arrested on five charges, three of which are felonies, in connection to a disturbance in his Ohio hometown. Among the disturbing details, Mahone allegedly threatened to kill police officers who responded to the scene and medical personnel who were treating him at a local hospital.

As noted by the Palm Beach Post, each football program has seen one of its players on the wrong side of handcuffs, with FSU’s being offensive lineman Ira Denson charged with a pair of misdemeanors -- petty theft and illegal use of a debit card. That incident, however, led to an even more serious incident and additional charges for the linemen after he was booted from the team.

In other words, the whole “people who live in glass houses...” thing is in play for ALL sides.
