Last week, D.J. Pettway was one of four Alabama football players dismissed from the program following their arrests in connection to a pair of on-campus robberies last month.
This week, it appears the former Tide defensive lineman is looking to move forward, even as he still has a pair of felonies hanging over his head.
According to al.com, a judge granted Pettway’s request to leave the state of Alabama in order to attend a school in Mississippi. The order did not state which specific Mississippi school Pettway would be attending.
Pettway, along with fellow former Tide players Brent Calloway and Eddie Williams, have a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 19. A preliminary hearing for the fourth former player, Tyler Hayes, has not been scheduled.
Pettway, Williams and Hayes were charged with two counts each of felony second-degree robbery three weeks ago, while Calloway was charged with fraudulent use of a credit/debit card related to the incidents. Additionally, Williams was arrested in a separate, previous incident for carrying a pistol without a license. He is also facing a charge of fraudulent use of a credit/debit card.
All four were indefinitely suspended by head coach Nick Saban Feb. 12, and were barred from the Tuscaloosa campus shortly thereafter. They were dismissed by Saban last Thursday.
